The Hypogeum is an underground prehistoric cemetery featuring interconnecting rock-cut chambers set on three levels. The earliest remains at the site date back to about 4000 before Christ, while the complex remained in use for some fifteen centuries. Of particular interest are the intricate red ochre wall paintings and the beautifully carved features in imitation of the contemporaneous Temples.
