Planning your Gozo carnival trip can take up a good few hours, and even planning the planning takes some planning and we’re not even joking here! But, the most important thing to remember is that all the lists and double checking will be worth it once you’re there.

There are so many things to check off your list for the legendary celebrations on Malta's sister isle! Here are but a few.

Choosing your roomie

This is probably the most important part of the trip. Whether you’re shacking up with your crush or calling in your bestie for a trusted sleeping amigo - someone who is well aware of your night-time sounds - you had better take your pick now since the best companions will be taken swiftly.

Get that shopping done

Don’t deny yourself the munchies! Even your fittest buds will be begging for their own bag of Sharing Twistees by the end of the night. It’s all about #balance, right? This is so hard to maintain in Gozo, for when the carnival floats ride in, your steadfast judgement is totally impaired, so best get that fridge in order before someone gets a hangry bout.

Are you entertainment ready?

A deck of cards can entertain you for hours! Ring of Fire is an epic drinking game and all you need is a set of playing cards, your clan and a bottle of your favourite poison. Cards Against Humanity is always a good choice and of course, the infamous Never Have I Ever will get some jaws to drop to the ground pretty quickly.

Cosy up kids, it’s gonna get chilly

Don’t forget your warmest threads, for you may find yourself shivering in a corner, rocking back and forth if you don’t keep warm. Gozo gets pretty cold and, for some reason, the carnival period is excessively cold every year. Totally unfair!

Need we mention this? Stock up! The last thing you want on your carnival trip is to run out of the good stuff and, trust us, you will be drinking a fair bit more than you expected. Drink within your limits but have fun and let loose. It’s not like you do this every weekend!

It’s party time

Whether it’s an organised party you’re heading to, or the street celebrations in Nadur, get yourself ready for the crowds, the loud music and the overall vibe by starting the party at home! Pre-drink your way to oblivion and live it up!

Reel it all in

Book a table at a Gozitan eatery serving a good old fry up - you’re going to need something to soak up all that alcohol the next morning and you won’t be the only one looking for a Full English. Make it a bit later, however, since you’ll never get out of bed before 10am.

Sorted. Your carnival weekend planned to a T! Remember to have a good old time, be safe and know your limits.
