Relish your coffee - and more - in Gozo

In the mood to chill out at a really atmospheric cafe in quaint Gozo? These are a few of our favourite hangouts for sweet somethings in homey vibes. There are many more, mostly around Victoria, Gozo’s capital, but we’ve selected a variety so you can always find somewhere good to go to, wherever you happen to be on the island. Plus we think they each have something special to offer!

1. Black Cat Cafe, Victoria

One of the cutest little cafes is very aptly right at the heart of Victoria. Some would argue that a visit to Gozo is incomplete without a visit to this unique place. Traditional, peaceful, cozy and tastefully decorated, you’ll feel right at home at Black Cat Cafe. Home-made yumminess is made with love and served on cute plates by friendly staff. It’s really more than just a cafe for your stomach; this cafe really touches your soul.

2. Cafe Reale, Xaghra

Highlight: a great meeting place

Cafe Reale

A great place for breakfast, brunch, lunch, a snack or just drinks in the sunshine on the south-facing side of the pretty town square of Xaghra. Here you'll find a great selection of cakes, lovely coffee and a well stocked bar; lactose free ice-cream and gluten free cake for those with special diets; as well as polite and attentive staff. All these things make Cafe Reale a great place to catch up with old friends, meet new ones or have an informal business meeting.

3. Jessica's Delights, Marsalforn

Highlight: the cakes

A fabulous array of cakes to die for and massive portions make this cafe a sweet tooth’s heaven. Every special treat is delicious. The only concern you might have is which cake to choose because you’ll certainly be pleased with the amazing service and friendly staff. Located in Marsalforn, Jessica’s Delights is a great stop for cake or even ice cream at one of Gozo’s favourite destinations or on the way to attractions such as Xwejni Salt Pans or Wied il-Ghasri.

4. Hondoq Bay Kiosk, Hondoq

Highlight: the location

Located almost on the water’s edge of pretty Hondoq Bay with fantastic views of Comino, the Hondoq Bay Kiosk commands a lovely sunny location you’ll be glad to visit just because. Good food, drinks and ice creams; great value for money; a welcoming interior and friendly service make this cute cafe a winner if you want to get off the beaten track yet find quality. Enjoy the informal vibe (you can even sit inside wet after dipping in the water) and try the Maltese ftira and a Kinnie for a really local experience.

5. Ta’ Dbiegi Cafetteria, Food & Wine, Gharb

Highlight: the traditional crafts village

Ta Dbiegi

The small restaurant with its genuine food offerings and very friendly staff already keep alive the traditional Maltese hospitality. Spoil yourself even more by adding to that the attraction it serves: the traditional crafts village of Gozo. Considered by many ‘more authentic’ than the Malta crafts village, traditional hospitality is extended by the shop owners who care about sharing knowledge about their craft and you can buy some original local souvenirs. A visit to the Ta Dbiegi Cafetteria is an opportunity for full immersion in local culture.

6. The Diamond, Xlendi

Highlight: the British food

If you’re British and missing a taste of home, The Diamond will relieve your cravings with traditional fish and chips and a home-cooked Sunday roast which will really hit the spot. If you’re more of a pizza fan or just want a light snack and coffee, you’ll be just as satisfied. All the food is tasty and lovingly presented with the special touch you can expect from a family-run business. Add to that the view of Xlendi Bay and you know you can’t go wrong stopping here.
