The airport’s main aim is to connect Malta and Gozo via air travel.
Commuting between Gozo and Malta has been almost exclusively happening via sea-based routes – either through the Gozo Channel or the Fast Ferry.
However, it seems like commuting between the two is about to soar to new heights…
Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri has just announced that Xewkija’s helipad is set to be extended into a small airport!
Looks like air travel between the two islands could soon become the norm.
Minister Camilleri noted that the airport will be “the first of its kind” and will be built with “minimum environmental impact.”
The Minister also noted that this project can serve to attract pilot schools and drone companies to Gozo.
Specific plans for the project are set to be released in the coming weeks.
What do you think of this new project?
