For many locals and visitors to the islands, Malta is known as the island of cats, and its little sister Gozo isn’t far behind. But, as much as we love coming across these fur babies as we go about our business, the streets aren’t always a safe place for them.
But that’s all about to change for some of these cuties! Stray cats across Gozo will be given a safe place to shelter from the elements this winter, as a new Cate Café project has just been announced for the sister isle.
Following on from a number of previously successful schemes which also included a cat neutering service, the initiative is being organised by the Ministry of Gozo and Animal Welfare Gozo.
The aim of the Cat Cafes will be to provide a safe space for the many stray cats on the island, in which they can shelter from the elements. They’ll also be fed and cared for by local feeders.
The Ministry is currently working with local councils to identify the best locations for these cafés, and we can’t wait till they’re up and running!
