Locals Angelo and Pierre are known for vlogging their adventures while exploring the Maltese Islands, and this time was no different. The duo headed to a complex of caves in Mellieha and after a bit of searching, they managed to find an entrance.

Angelo notes that the ruined rubble walls (hajt ta-sejjieh) meant that people used to live in there, back in God-knows-what century. The cases also had little rooms that also included space for animal care. Angelo’s trekking companion, Pierre, noted that at first you’d think the caves are simple but a lot of detail actually went into their construction. Not to mention the stunning views!

In another section of the complex, they stumbled upon a feature that they hadn’t before: the cave had an entire section one floor beneath the primary room. The duo speculated that this room was either used as lodgings or as a shelter during World War II. Angelo notes that if anyone does come exploring here, definitely watch your heads and your step!

The third and fourth caves featured holes and shelvings carved into the stone, as well as a closed-off window, hay, and unfortunately litter and broken pieces of wood. They continue on, but we'll let you experience the magic of exploring yourselves.
