Totally reimagined! The waterfront at Marsalforn in Gozo has just relaunched the revamped area which has now become completely pedestrianised.

Part of the ‘Marsalforn Masterplan,’ €3 million were invested in order to rebuild the area in time for the summer months so that families and children can enjoy the area without the fear of traffic accidents occurring.

“We wanted an open space for families to come and relax with their families across the area,” Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri said yesterday evening during the inauguration. “The vision was to create new spaces for families to enjoy their free time.”

Now, the Menqa area has been completely revamped and turned into a pedestrian zone with limited access for vehicles. Exceptional cases such as access to slipways, public transport and specific times for services will only be allowed access at times.

The area also saw the construction of a new coastal defence system and pavement which is designed to keep the bay safe from the sea while also promoting the replenishment of the beach. In addition, a new system of stormwater culverts has been installed to flush rainwater out to avoid street flooding which has happened in the past. The pier for the locality’s fishermen has also been rebuilt while a new lighting system has also been installed. A true facelift!
