Our sister island of Gozo may be Malta’s greener counterpart, but it hasn’t been completely spared of development over the years. A vintage postcard that was shared on a local Facebook group reveals the extent of the changes made to one popular Gozitan village – and it’s barely recognisable!
The postcard shows three local women working on traditional Gozitan lace under the shade of a tree, overlooking the bay. Not a soul is in sight otherwise, making for quite a change to the area nowadays, which is often flooded with people (not to mention several restaurants and decked out tables).
Have you recognised it yet?
The village in the postcard is none other than Xlendi! Located on the south west of the island, it’s a popular spot for visitors, who flock to its shores for the restaurants, beach, and one of Gozo’s best ice-cream parlours.
Yo may find it hard to place as there has been a substantial amount to construction in the area. Earlier this year it was announced that one of the town’s last-standing boathouses will soon be transformed into yet another apartment block.
The building, which is currently home to ‘The Boathouse’ restaurant is on track to be transformed into a gargantuan five-floor seafront apartment block.
Have you been to Xlendi?
