How to enjoy the best of the capital this month.
1. See the must-sees and do the must-dos
From the must-sees such as St John's Co Cathedral and the Grand Harbour view from the Upper Barrakka Gardens to the must-dos such as checking out a few museums and doing a spot of shopping, pick some of the most iconic things to do in Valletta and do them.
2. Celebrate a local festa
The national holiday of St Paul’s Shipwreck that is celebrated on 10th February is a perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in local culture. Witness the religious ceremonies and join the street festivities held in Valletta around the parish of St Paul's Shipwreck; discover (if a little off-season) what the local festa is all about.
3. Get cultured with music, film and theatre
There’s plenty to enjoy in the capital all year round when it comes to the performing arts. Some of the best venues to check out include Spazju Kreattiv at St James Cavalier for some out-of-the-ordinary cinema and theatre; the historic Manoel Theatre which is featuring the Best from Broadway and the West End this month; and the Mediterranean Conference Centre (ex Sacra Infermeria) which welcomes the Abba Arrival this February. You can also visit the Malta Experience or see the Valletta Living History movie of course!
4. Get a taste of Carnival
The Malta carnival, complete with costumed dancers, parades of carnival floats and masked attendees is a rather big affair. 28th February marks the beginning of carnival in Malta, which will stretch until 5th March.
5. Have just one day?
Worry not if nothing much seems to be happening in the capital on a particular day, even if all you have is that one day. Valletta is a UNESCO world heritage site in its entirety, a gem of history, art and culture promising fascination with every footstep. And this step-by-step itinerary is just what you need for a wholesome experience of Valletta city.
