Tucked away in South Street is a vintage cafe which has been making coffee in the capital for decades. Remaining true to its original spirit, Prego lets you experience a Valletta of the past, one which has been left untouched by tourism and hungry city development. You can sit on the leather cushioned benches around wooden round tables inside and enjoy some pastizzi with a cappuccino, watching lawyers and long-time regulars walk in and out.
Small and special, Lot Sixty One is situated just off Merchant Street and serves delicious coffee which you can choose to enjoy either inside or out. Grab a fresh croissant to go with it and you are all set to begin your day.
You can experience Caffe Cordina in two ways: sitting outside in the iconic Pjazza Regina, in front of Valletta’s Bibliotheca, or amongst the beautiful interiors of the cafe, an old palazzo. One of the capital’s oldest, and possibly largest coffee shops, Caffe Cordina threw its doors open in Valletta in 1944. Here, they also offer a large variety of Maltese sweets and snacks to compliment your coffee. Delish!
Piadina’s main specialty lies in its name - the Italian stuffed flatbread. However, sipping a hot drink on the Santa Lucija steps, whilst watching Valletta's hustle and bustle, also makes it a wonderful place to sit down and have a coffee.
The unique experience of Gun Post is mainly due to its colourful character and strategic position. You can guzzle a coffee whilst seated in an actual historical gun post, with a view of Manoel Island and Sliema. Since it is open-air, Gun Post is only open in the warmer seasons. Perhaps that's why it's such a sought after spot!
