Valletta Green Festival
4th-6th May
Free to the public, the Valletta Green Festival will transform St George’s Square into a huge floral carpet composed of some 80,000 potted plants. The yearly programme of family-friendly activities aims to promote environmental consciousness on the Maltese Islands. The festival also offers visitors rare glimpses into some of the capital city’s little-known historical treasures, including the four-hundred-year-old gardens of the Archbishop’s Palace and the Convent of St Catherine.

10th-27th May
This art exhibition by Karen Caruana taking place at Malta Society of Arts, Palazzo de la Salle illustrates a nostalgic walk through the current evidence of Malta's development. These surreal oil paintings characterise the desire to live in a better past and a direct sensitivity towards a questionable future - all the while, exploring emotional links between the self, architecture and nostalgia.

Star of Strait Street
15th May, 7pm/9pm
Staged at the recently renovated Phoenicia Hotel (the daily view that greeted the story's heroine from her apartment in Floriana) this show promises to be a feast for theatre and music lovers, as well as Maltese history enthusiasts. Based on a true-life love story from World War II, this new musical by Philip Glassborow takes us back to the wild days of Valletta’s most famous street. The play stars Polly March, Larissa Bonaci and Geoff Thomas, and features wartime standards like I’ll Be Seeing You alongside original songs such as Welcome to Valletta.
