Gozo is absolutely blooming as Spring is in full effect.
Spring in Malta is the perfect time to appreciate the islands’ unending natural beauty – and what better way to experience this than to embark on a hike with friends?
A stone’s throw away from the mainland, Gozo offers visitors a range of different hiking trails, each exhibiting some of the island’s most idyllic offerings.
That’s why, today, we’re rounding up five of our favourite hiking spots on our sister island. This way, you’ll never run out of things to do on your weekend break.
Here we go!
1. Fungus Rock, Dwejra
Most people know Dwejra for its stunning Azure Window, which is sadly no more. Having said that, this quaint Gozitan spot has still got a lot to offer.
The trail along the cliffs surrounding Dwejra’s Fungus Rock is downright glorious, giving hikers the perfect chance to witness some impressive cliff-side scenes and visit a couple of hidden beaches.
Bonus tip: Dwejra sports some of the most lavish sunset views on the island, making this trail even more memorable.
2. Salt Pans, Xwejni
Take a walk along the Salt Pans in Xwejni during the early hours of the day to get an epic view of the sunrise.
There’s nothing quite better than a relaxed walk by the beach to clear your mind.
Bonus tip: Make sure to buy some salt from the spot’s local vendors. Rest assured that no store-bought salt will taste better than this.
3. Wied il-Ghasri
Xwejni trail left you wanting more? Keep walking along the designated paths and you’ll eventually reach the dazzling Wied il-Ghasri.
No valley on the Maltese islands looks as breath-taking as this one!
Bonus tip: Check out this spot early in the morning if you want to treat yourself to an early-morning, serene swim.
4. Ta’ Cenc Cliffs, Sannat
Looking for a hike with some awe-inspiring cliff-side views? Then we strongly suggest heading to Sannat’s Ta’ Cenc Cliffs.
Once you make it here, you’ll be completely surrounded by fields with no buildings in sight.
Bonus tip: If you’re up for a longer hike, extend your trail to Munxar’s Sanap Cliffs which are right around the corner and just as spectacular.
5. Salvatur Hill, Marsalforn
This is the perfect spot for those seeking an adrenaline-fuelled adventure.
Marsalforn’s Salvatur Hill is in no way an easy trail and is especially tough on the knees, but we promise that it’s all worth it in the end.
If hill’s pictures look familiar, it’s because the statue at its peak is a replica of the Chris The Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Bonus tip: The top of the hill is the perfect spot for a picnic, so make sure to pack some goodies with you.
