If you’re strolling along the coast around Riviera beach and a twinkle catches your eye, it might be the sparkling reflection off a beautiful gemstone that is abundant in the area. You’ll find Honey Calcite here, a calcium carbonate mineral, in massive or rhombohedral crystals embedded in the rocks and among the pebbles.

Honey Calcite derives from lime and is among the most common minerals on earth, yet it has a marvellous character. In the Crystal Bible volume 1 by Judy Hall, it is described as follows:

“Calcite is a powerful amplifier and cleanser of energy. Simply having Calcite in the room cleans negative energies from the environment and heightens your energy.”

No matter how many stories this land has seen, how much blood has been spilled in the wake of war, what negative emotions are evoked in the public by mad politicians, Honey Calcite dissipates that gloom from the environment and returns fresh vital energy to all. Nice.

“Calcite is an active crystal, speeding up development and growth. It is a spiritual stone linked to the higher consciousness that facilitates the opening of higher awareness and accelerates spiritual development.”

This might explain why the ancients have built so many beautiful temples on this mere rock of an island. The high concentration of megalithic remains on the Maltese Islands is remarkable. Perhaps, the abundance of Honey Calcite in Malta might explain this choice of theirs? It is just as likely as not that the temple builders were intuitive, intelligent and spiritually connected beyond what we might imagine.

“Calcite connects the emotions with the intellect, creating emotional intelligence.”

Hmm. Some of the modern day species must be immune to the powers of this stone! Joking apart, Calcite is also said to connect to the solar plexus chakra, which relates to personal power. By living in this location with an abundance of Honey Calcite, the Maltese should be naturally given to honouring their personal truth - a heart-based truth - whatever it may be. Judging by the fervour by which they speak it and uphold it, it would seem that this one works alright.

“Calcite calms the mind, teaches discernment and analysis, stimulates insights and boosts memory.”

The Maltese should also be gifted with peace of mind, mental clarity, intuition, alertness and the ability to learn. Gold Calcite (another name for Honey Calcite) is particularly recommended for meditation, creativity and productively manifesting ideas. Now that’s encouraging.

“Calcite alleviates emotional stress and replaces it with serenity”

Apparently, Honey Calcite is ideal when life feels too much, helping you focus on what’s important right now and shutting out the extra noise. This might explain why, no matter what the issue is and how passionately he might have complained, post rant, the Maltese ultimately settles, adopting any version of life that’s less complicated. Generally, but not necessarily, a good thing.

Out with the old, in with the new

Finally, Calcite is a stone for letting go of the past and ushering in the new. It removes stagnant energy and supports physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual growth. This might explain why so many people feel drawn to creating a new life in Malta!

Use Honey Calcite as a cleanser. It cleans your environment and purifies the body (it is said to support the functions of the bladder, intestines, kidneys and female reproductive organs, as well as supporting the immune system and tissue healing). Local Honey Calcite products can be obtained from Malta Stone at the Ta’ Qali Crafts Village.
