Valletta
Must visit this week: Science in the City
It's time for the festival of science

Kristina Cassar Dowling

For one night and one night only every year, Malta’s capital city of Valletta transforms into a haven for science buffs to strut their stuff and own the city. And this year, the highly successful Science in the City is back on 28th September, from 6pm till midnight.

Malta's Science and Arts Festival has a powerful message for 2018: it's simple and catchy, and reads, 'everyone starts at zero'. Holding a theme that ties closely with the European Year of Cultural Heritage and Valletta's European Capital of Culture, this year's mesh between Science and Culture should be an interesting one.

‘Science is Culture’ is aimed at highlighting the ways in which art, food and communication - major parts of our culture; are affected and influenced by science and technology.

This year, get ready for 30 free activities that will be open to the public throughout the night. Look out for art installations, science theatres and film festivals shedding light on scientific themes, as well as awesome live experiments for all to enjoy.

One of the biggest highlights of the night will include a larger than life installation featuring a giant computer mouse which will scroll through the Valletta piazza in which it will be showcased. But that’s not all! The mouse will be hooked up to a high tech visual artwork - enlarged for total exposure and added fun. This alone is worth a visit!

Science in the City is a festival that forms part of European Researchers’ Night and is made possible in collaboration with Valletta 2018. With 30,000 visitors expected on the night, get there early to enjoy this educational festival - an ideal event for budding scientists with a curious mind.
