Need your caffeine fix? Here are 7 great places to grab a cup of coffee in Valletta
They’re all so different, but they have one thing in common.
1. Chocolate District
This chocolate boutique and café in Melita Street may have been sent from up above. It specialises in fine chocolates, loose leaf teas and specialty grade coffee beans, and also offers pure chocolate and infusions on tap! But, back to the coffee, Chocolate District offers award-winning Single Origin coffees on the La Victoria Arduino, a handmade, state of the art espresso machine, as well as inspired regional coffees on pour over, such as the specialty Maltese Coffee, Vietnamese, and Bicerin.
2. Caffe Cordina
No matter how little or how much time you have in the capital, a pit stop at Caffe Cordina in Republic Street is a must. This coffee place has been around for 175 years, having more than proven its worth, and offers a delicious coffee in the most picturesque of settings, both indoors and out.
3. Lot Sixty One
Located on Old Theatre Street, Lot Sixty One lives and breathes the speciality coffee culture. Coffee beans are roasted on site, twice weekly, and the baristas here serve every cup with love, precision, and a deep knowledge of their delicious brew.
4. Café Prego
This charmer has been in business since 1946 and was around well before Valletta’s now-thriving coffee culture. Located in South Street, it’s Maltese through and through, and serves a neat cappuccino, which goes exceptionally well with Prego’s iconic, ever-so-simple sandwiches.
5. Kingsway
This swanky café and cocktail bar in Republic Street has all the makings to attract the more elite passers-by in Valletta, with its monogrammed royal blue wallpaper and matching aprons. Kingsway also serves some mean coffee, as well as delicious fare for breakfast, brunch and evening nibbles.
6. Culto
This tiny corner eatery and café in St John’s Street packs quite the punch – Culto's Italian owners know their food and drink, and serve it up in a low-key atmosphere that’s perfect for a quick caffeine fix while sightseeing in the city.
7. Dolci Peccati
Another Italian favourite in Malta is Dolci Peccati, with a presence in Sliema as well as St John’s Square in Valletta. Literally meaning ‘sweet sins’, this café makes glorious cups of coffee, which go down exceptionally well with one (or a few) of their many mini desserts, making it just the right amount of sinning.
