Originally forming an integral part of the adjoining Courts of Justice, this prison, in use from the mid-sixteenth until the beginning of the twentieth century, comprises a common cell and a free-standing block with six individual units. The list of inmates detained here includes Fra Jean Parisot de Valette, who later became the Grand Master of Malta and the founder of Valletta.
