You might have trekked Buskett, but have you trekked Buskett the Pierre Farrugia way?
Local explorer Pierre Farrugia is adamant about showcasing the islands’ lesser-known historical spots, and his latest upload shows off a classic but sometimes forgotten trek.
Buskett is a common spot amongst Maltese families for a quaint Sunday walk, but there’s more to it than you might think. That’s why Pierre, his team of co-workers, and a couple of four-legged friends came together to show what this place has to offer.
With navigation in the trusty hands of Daniel Borg, Pierre and his team set off from Buskett Woodlands.
The hike continued towards the Verdala Palace, which serves as the President of Malta’s official summer residence, which then led them to Il-Madonna Tal-Girgenti.
Their next stop was Salib Tal-Gholja (Laferla Cross), after which point they headed downhill to Gebel Ciantar, which gave way to panoramic views of Dingli Cliffs.
Along this path, the team stumbled upon some traditional Maltese 'giren', which are corbelled huts found in rural that are used for storage or as temporary shelters. Further along, they also came across cliff edges riddled with caves, probably once used for shelter.
The team went on to explore Ghar il-Kbir and its Cart Ruts, a complex network of tracks carved in the rock.
Will you be taking Pierre’s route the next time you visit Buskett?
