‘F. Blackley’ was a typical English establishment.
There’s no denying that Valletta has seen some huge changes in the past century or so…
Testament to this is a vintage photo of an old tearoom previously found in the midst of our capital, shared to social media by a certain John Navarro.
Known as ‘F. Blackley’, the tearoom was situated between Republic Street and Melita Street, right opposite St Francis’ church.
In more ways than one, ‘F. Blackley’ was a typical English establishment, serving up a great selection of British cakes, bakes, and pastries.
Several people who used to frequent the tearoom back in the day took to the post’s comments section to reminisce about the old days.
“To many who lived outside Valletta, a visit to the capital would have been incomplete without a stop at this Aladdin’s cave of cakes,” one commenter wrote.
“Their cream buns were the best,” added another.
