City of lights! The festival that transforms Valletta's streets is back this October
Since it’s inception, Notte Bianca has quickly risen through the ranks of Malta’s favourite annual events, and this year is set to be more enthralling than ever.

One of Malta’s most popular festivals is so publicly acclaimed because it caters for everyone – and by everyone, we mean adults, children, youths, families, tourists, locals, artists, politicians, musicians, hooligans, culture aficionados, culture critics, sceptics and just about anyone seeking to inject their weekend with fun and excitement. There, literally everyone.

One of this year’s coolest additions is the debut of a new interactive map aimed to facilitate the festival-goers’ experience. The entire program has been split over seven routes, with each trail catering for a different experience. These divide into adult-themed shows (a.k.a The Red Route), installations, dance, theatre, child-friendly productions, music and a sub-route dedicated specifically to classical music.

Organisers have taken audience feedback garnered from previous editions on board, and believe that this project will help the public pre-plan their Notte Bianca outing. This year’s festival will be even bigger than previous editions; and is set to host in excess of 50 shows, with the participation of over 200 local and international artists and further 100 workers striving to ensure the smooth-running of the festival.

Amongst the most intriguing events is the Open-air Orchestra, a musical journey at Pjazza Teatru Rjal that sees the Malta Youth Orchestra join forces with tenor Cliff Zammit Stevens, mezzo-soprano Clare Ghigo and singer Jasmine Abela. Pjazza San Gorg will also be hosting it’s own musical event with il-lejla, illejla! With the participation of Owen Luellen and international DJ Christina Novelli, amongst others. A comical musical, it-Tfajla li Stunat, and a dance project laden with social themes will also be exhibited within the Maltese Courts and the Upper Barrakka Gardens respectively. These, and many other productions, were put together by the festival’s new artistic director, Antoine Farrugia.
Notte Bianca will be dazzling the capita on Saturday 5th October, from 7pm onwards. Which Notte Bianca event/s will you be attending this year?
