The project is divided into two phases.
Gozo Channel operations have just announced that they will be using a new e-ticketing system starting from the 24th January.
This means that passengers crossing between Malta and Gozo will be able to buy their tickets online from beforehand instead of simply buying them right before they board.
However, only phase one will be introduced this January. This means that only travellers that hold a daily commuter or frequent travel card together with government offices and tour operators will be affected for now.
Daily Commuter and Frequent Travel card holders will no longer have a valid card from the 24th January and will therefore need to apply for a new card.
Thankfully all remaining credit from the old card will be refunded.
From the 24th January onwards, Government Offices and Tour Operators which are registered with Gozo Channel will have the option to buy ferry tickets online through their own personal account.
In the meantime, Gozo Channel commuters will continue to be able to buy tickets the traditional way from the assigned ticket boots at the terminal.
Phase 2 will be communicated in the near future and will impact all customer groups, allowing for online purchasing of tickets and online top-up of travel cards.
