Heading to the Fireworks Festival in Gozo this weekend? Here's everything you need to know!
From transportation and diversions, to the event schedule and optimum viewing areas.
The Malta International Fireworks Festival is kicking off tomorrow with its first show in Xaghra, Gozo. It’s the perfect opportunity to chillax after a week of hard work as you watch the night sky light up.
Transportation
You’ve got some options of transportation to use to get to and around Malta’s sister isle.
Ferry
The festival has said that the Gozo Ferry will be operating as usual. “You can head down to Gozo anytime during the day, however, we do suggest heading to Gozo a little early to visit some unique places in Gozo,” they said in a post on Facebook. And we totally agree! Gozo has so much to offer, so might as well make a day out of it! The festival will be ending at around 11.45pm, which gives travellers plenty of time to head back to Mgarr to catch the 00.45am ferry. For the full Gozo Ferry schedule click here.
Bus
Visitors can either head to Gozo with their cars or opt to use public transport to avoid having to hassle for parking. A shuttle service from Mgarr to Xaghra will be operating between 7pm and 9pm and then from Xaghra back to Mgarr at 11.30pm. For more information on the public transport service click here.

2. Triq Tal-Qacca will be completely closed for traffic from Friday 24th July at 6am until Saturday 25th July at 6am.
3. Triq Ta’Hamet will also be completely closed for traffic on Friday 24th between 7pm and midnight.
The main event
“As you can imagine the fireworks can be viewed from various places in Gozo. However, if you want to go to the best viewing point, you have to go to the Xaghra Belvedere,” the festival shares on Facebook. “Apart from being the best viewing location, you will be able to enjoy Maltese traditional cuisine and a concert by Dcapitals after the pyro-musical shows and traditional fireworks displays.” Oooh… count us in! This is the first of the four fireworks displays part of the Malta International Fireworks Festival for this year. If you cannot make it to Gozo this weekend, you can catch the displays at Mqabba on 27th and 29th July and at Valletta's Grand Harbour for the grand finale on 7th August.
