Nostalgia & cravings! Remembering Valletta's famous Imqaret kiosk
Bring it back!

Jillian Mallia

Do you remember a time when Triton square in Valletta was surrounded by kiosks selling various things? The best one was the imqaret stand just outside the city’s main gate. You’d get a whiff of the glorious sweet as soon as you walk to the fountain. #Heaven.

But with the renovation of Triton Square came the closure of the Dates Kiosk, which was a constantly busy spot and an easy landmark to say the least. A visit to Malta’s capital wouldn’t be complete without a trip to this kiosk to feast on crunchy, and freshly fried Imqaret. Ugh we’re drooling already!

But not to fret – the Dates Kiosk is still around! According to a Facebook user who commented on a post circulating in Facebook group Nostalgia Malta, you can get your imqaret fix near the Hamrun church. #YAS! If you’re a lazy bum though, imqaret are still sold at the orange kiosks near the bus terminus. Options, baby!
