Malta's sandy beaches are about to get a whole lot cleaner...
Local page Is-Servizz Pubbliku has just shared a video showing new sand-cleaning machinery being tested out at Ghadira Bay in Mellieha.
This new technology works by automatically sifting through the sand and thus, picking up the waste left behind by beach-goers.
This is a great example of how we can work hand in hand with technology to help the sustainable environment movement.
The video posted on social media shows a gorgeous Ghadira Bay at sunrise, as one of the machines is put to work, filtering sand from plastic bottles, cups, plates and cigarette butts.
The hydrostatic and self-propelled beach-cleaner is extremely manoeuvrable and agile even in small spaces - perfect for Malta's small bays.
In the past month, Ramla l-Hamra bay in Gozo became home to the Maltese islands’ first turtle nest of 2022. A day after that, another turtle was spotted at Hondoq ir-Rummien where it was also attempting to nest.
Unfortunately, the second turtle was not successful, although it is expected to return to Malta’s beaches to finish off what she started.
