A view everyone who is familiar with the Maltese Islands is sure to recognise is the picturesque Ghajn Tuffieha bay at the top of the steps leading up to it. It tells the story of countless days spent lounging by the sea, ice-cream in hand, enjoying the Maltese summer.
At the top of the hill, before you begin your descent, lies a ruined building – the old Riviera Martinique hotel, and while it’s not much to look at now, was once a beautiful resort with an unbeatable view.

This incredible old postcard offers a glimpse of what it looked like back in the 1970s, in the hotel’s heyday. The beautifully landscaped garden overlooks the recognizable bay, and it certainly looks like the place to be on a sunny summer’s day!
The Riviera Martinique hotel sadly closed its doors in the early 1980s, and today retains its position atop the hill, watching the bathers come and go, a ghost of its former self.
