12 beaches around the Maltese islands received this title.
Three beaches in Gozo – Ramla l-Hamra, Hondoq ir-Rummien, and Marsalforn – have been awarded the Blue Flag.
This means that they satisfied the criteria proposed by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), represented locally by Nature Trust Malta.
Said criteria includes water quality testing, first aid service, and rescue operation facilities.
The three Gozitan beaches join another nine Maltese beaches that received said title. These are as follows: Fond Ghadir, St George’s Bay, Qawra Point, Bugibba Beach, Ghadira, Golden Bay, Paradise Bay, and the Westin Dragonara Beach.
“This is a symbol that puts more responsibility on us, as the Blue Flag challenges local authorities, managers, and beach operators to reach high standards in water quality, management, environmental education, as well as beach security”, the Minister of Gozo, Clint Camilleri expressed.
“We are going to continue investing in more facilities, including two new lifeguard stations at Rambla Bay. I ask all those that visit Gozo to be responsible, especially when it comes to keeping the environment clean,”, he concluded.
