Trevi Fountain in Rome took the top spot.

It’s safe to say that Valletta’s Triton Fountain is one of the most recognisable landmarks on the Maltese islands, however, newly released statistics are providing some interesting insight into just how popular this iconic structure truly is…

Research conducted by comparethemarket.com has just ranked the Triton Fountain as one of the ten ‘most Instagrammable fountains’ around the world.

That’s right – a whopping 10,442 posts with the hashtag ‘#tritonfountain’ have been published on Instagram, making this Maltese structure the eighth most posted about fountain in the world.

As its name suggests, the Triton Fountain consists of three bronze Tritons designed and built by sculptors Vincent Apap and Victor Anastasi between 1952 and 1959.

Unsurprisingly, comparethemarket.com’s rankings were topped by the Trevi Fountain in Rome. Over 590,000 posts about this structure were published on social media.

Switzerland’s Jet d’Eau and Spain’s Cascada del Parc de la Ciutadella came in second and third place, inspiring 145,647 and 109,382 posts, respectively.

All ten of the fountains on the list are found in Europe, which is most likely because of the continent’s classic architecture.
