Three primary Gozo beaches have been awarded Blue Flag status! Ramla l-Hamra, Hondoq ir-Rummien and Marsalforn have now joined the Blue Flag club, Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri announced.

The minister said that the principal aim was to beautify local beaches so that Gozitans, Maltese and tourists can enjoy them to the full, while also attracting sustainable tourism.

“The Blue Flag brings a lot of responsibility, not only for authorities but also for anyone who visits any one of these beaches,” Minister Camilleri said during a press conference held at Hondoq ir-Rummien. “We need to make sure that there is a good water quality, appropriate environmental management, the strengthening of environmental education, while also assuring complete security on the beach.”

In addition, Minister Camilleri noted that during the past few weeks, there was the campaign ‘Insebbhu Pajjizna.’ Through this campaign, various locations around Gozo were cleaned up and given some much-needed TLC such as the parking area in Victoria (new signs were installed and road markings were redone, together with the planting of trees). Other parking areas in Marsalforn and Xlendi were also cleaned up, as was the countryside in Gharb.

But the work didn’t stop there! Numerous fountains and monuments were also given some TLC including: Mons Luigi Vella monument in Pjazza Savina, the fountain within Villa Rundle, the 1881 Fountain located at the Rabat crossroads and the Corpus Christi monument in Rabat’s Pjazza Indipendenza.
