The original Götheborg was built in 1738 for the purpose of trading with East Asia.
The Götheborg of Sweden – that is, the largest ocean-going wooden sailing ship in the world – is set to dock in Malta next month, and it’s going to be open to visitors!
This huge vessel is currently heading out on a two-year expedition to Asia. Before reaching its destination, however, the ship will dock at various European ports.
The Götheborg of Sweden is set to dock in Malta on 15th October and will be open to the public until 17th October.
Visitors can learn all about the East India Companies – the same companies that owned the original version of this ship – and hear many interesting stories about Swedish sailors who voyaged all the way to China.
The original Götheborg was built in 1738 for the purpose of trading with East Asia. Unfortunately, it sank in 1745, but an exact replica of it was built in 1995.
The ship will be open to visitors from 2pm to 5:30pm on all three days. It will take around an hour to experience all that the vessel has to offer.
Tickets cost €15 for adults and €7.50 for children under 16. Babies and toddlers aged four or under can go on for free. Tickets can be bought online or on-site.
