Many on the main island will be heading to Gozo this weekend to enjoy all the craziness that Nadur’s spontaneous carnival has to offer.

The usually peaceful Gozo turns into busy and super lively island, full of people in crazy costumes, having an extra drink or two and just having a good old time.

So, here’s everything you need to know in order to have the most hassle free and enjoyable weekend possible.

First and foremost, try to avoid driving. It’s simply easier to catch a taxi as parking will be close to impossible.

Tallinja are also organising a special late night bus service to get you up to Nadur and back home stress free.

If you plan on going out during the day, try to avoid driving through the busy and main roads.  They will be full of traffic due to the huge increase of cars going round the island.

It’s also important to know that driving up to Gozo means that you’ll probably be waiting for a long time at the Cirkewwa ferry line. It might be annoying, but definitely worth the wait.

If this is your first time going up to Nadur, don’t make the mistake of thinking that this is just going to be your typical party.

It’s not.

Locals all around Gozo but especially those from Nadur have spent the past few months working hard making floats to parade across the streets Nadur. These however are not the typical carnival floats you would see driving through Valletta…

They’re much more satirical, funny, clever and political so get ready for a laugh!

Many locals will even dress up in masks that cover their whole faces, making them look completely unrecognisable.

They will have a whole act and character ready and will come up to every stranger they come across and annoy them but it’s all in good fun. It will truly make your night that much more memorable.

It’s also highly important to wear comfortable old shoes as the chances of you getting stepped on are high. Don’t bother with your favourite party shoes!

Gozo will also be hosting a good number of parties and even though these parties are all extremely fun it would be such a pity to not go to carnival in Nadur at some point or another.

Most people think that Gozo only organises the spontaneous carnival, but they still very much organise the type of Carnival you see in Malta.

Many Gozitan dance companies and float building enthusiasts have been hard at work. Various localities across the island are organising sit down events where you can see all the colourful dancing and floats.
